Rakesh Roshan thought what if nobody came to watch ‘Koi…Mil Gaya’, because Hrithik Roshan’s last release ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon’ didn’t work | Hindi Movie News

‘Koi…Mil Gaya‘ is considered one of Hrithik Roshan’s most memorable work. It’s will be 20 years to the film’s release on August 8 and the film continues to be remembered for its songs and characters. Despite the love which Hrithik has got for the film, there are some sections which have also made jokes and memes on it. As the film celebrates its 20 years, Rakesh recalled in an interview that he also thought for a moment that he could be risking Hrithik’s career.

The director recalled in an interview with Bollywood Hungama that, he indeed thought this is a risk to Hrithik’s career, but then when he took the very first shot of the film, he was 100 percent confident.

While looking at the first thought, Rakesh thought that they will surely hit it this time. But, just two months before the release of ‘Koi..Mil Gaya’,Sooraj Barjatya‘s ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon‘ had released and it didn’t do well. Post ‘Kaho Na..Pyaar Hai’, none of Hrithik’s films had worked. Hence, Rakesh thought, ‘what if nobody comes to watch my film’.
The producer-director had also told all the distributors out of nervousness that it’s not a commercial film hence they shouldn’t have a 9am morning show for it. But the distributors told him that what will happen to them if he’s only so nervous. Much to Rakesh’s surprise, he got a call from distributors at 6 am on the day of release that the film is a huge hit. He recalled that when he showed the film to the distributors, atleast 5-6 of them wouldn’t like it. But the first one to compliment him and hug him was a distributor from Punjab. That’s when Rakesh thought that if a distributor from Punjab has loved the film, everyone will love it.
Post ‘Koi..Mil Gaya’, Rakesh made a sequel to it in the form of ‘Krrish’, which was also a hit!
