When asked if Huma was always the first choice for Tarla, Ashwiny added, “Absolutely! We had seen Maharani and right after that, the next day itself, I sent her a message and said, ‘I have a script for you. Would you like to read it?’ And she said, ‘Okay’. She is a very hardworking actor and is very warm with the team. And that makes even the process of making cinema very beautiful. She’s very good at her craft, so that adds a lot of value to the whole process of filmmaking.”
Over the years, Ashwiny has championed strong women in most of her films, be it ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ or ‘Panga’. “I’m just a storyteller who is trying to tell different stories. And it’s not a deliberate attempt that I want to tell stories which only fronts women characters. It is just that I make sure the women in my films get equal importance as the men.”
Another ambitious project the filmmaker has been working on is a narrative on Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and wife Sudha Murthy. Sharing an update on the same. Ashwiny said, “We’re still writing that and we’ll soon announce about it because we are in the stage of almost finishing the writing.”
